Abstract
The author of the article analyses how identities, the Otherness and modern Others are created in the process of subculturalisation and ritualisation of modern economy and market. He begins with the mechanisms of social interaction, communication, and mobilization of human creative potential, then discusses the notion of spectacle industries which are shown to be important in the process of creation of modern Others. The relevant philosophical positions of Jean Baudrillard and Arvydas Šliogeris are considered here in the context and against the background of controversial positions held by International Situationists (G. Debord, R. Vaneigeim and others). As the author reminds, Baudrillard understood the Other as something plastic and artificial which presupposes a flux of identities: the Otherness is thought of as the manufacturing and selling of signs and the development of democracy based on diversity. In this context, the interpretation of the Other as Infinity, proposed by Levinas, is also discussed and criticized. The author holds that modern Others are a product of creative leisure time and industrial activities of spectacle society. Therefore, the Other is neither Infinity nor Nothing but presupposes a flux of identities integrated into creative industries. On the one hand, different groups of Others are not equal sensu stricto, but have equal opportunities to develop their identities and are free to represent their interests. On the other hand, the modern subcultural Person is not a full person, because (s)he continually changes his/her identities and is in the permanent process which also includes the transgression of subjectivity. Finally, the author considers the relation of pataphysics to the Other.[...]
