Abstract
A review of the literature reveals that basketball referees experience quite high amount of stress during the matches. Amount of research on umpires’ stress indicators during matches are increasing around the world. This opens up more opportunities to prepare future referees by teaching them how to deal with constant tension and stress during a match. However, the stress experienced by referees during matches is still little researched in Lithuanian sports science. The aim of the research: to evaluate the licensed basketball referees of Lithuania, tournaments for the 2019– 2020 season, the level for stress during the match, the level of stress during the match due to insults and disputes with the coaches, due to insults and disputes with players, due to insults and negative remarks from the audience, disagreements with the other court referees, to evaluate the indicators of stress experienced by referees for other determinants (live broadcast, trauma, etc.). Methodology of research. The questionnaire we use during the match for the level of stress experienced by basketball referees is a self-analysis tool designed specifically to assess the stress of basketball referees. BOSSI (Basketball Official Sources of Stress Inventory) M. Anshel, R. Weinberg (1995). Respondents were presented with the main stressful situations (disputes / insults from coaches / players, negative remarks from spectators, conflicts / disagreements with a partner (another referee) and other actions (inspector / mentor participation in the match, trauma, imposition of a disqualifying foul) found in matches they had to score from 1 to 10. The results of the study were processed by the methods of mathematical statistics.[...]
Basketball Official’s Sources of Stress Inventory; Anshel, Weinberg, 1999).[...]
